The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) are something children of all eras should experience. During my lifetime they have come in many forms. There were the TMNT comic books. Then the TMNT animated series. Then live action movies involving the TMNT. And most recently a CGI version of the same lovable turtles. Oh yeah, lets not forget the action figures. With four of them, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello, it was easy to relate to their varied antics. Of course, Keith and I have our favorites. Check it out below and be sure to let us know who your favorite turtle is and why.

Who is the best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? No contest Michelangelo!

I can break this down in several categories.

Weapon I could do the least damage to myself with? You should be thinking “Hey Keith I think you can easily hurt yourself with nun-chucks” and you would be absolutely correct, but compared to a sword, a wicked bow-staff and kitana blades, I´d wager the least long term and most hilarious injury would obviously come from nun-chucks.

Best attitude? Lets look at what he loves to do, hang out, eat pizza, and watch TV, and well skateboard. I don’t like to skateboard, but 3 out of 4 is more than you’ll find with any other turtle and me. Plus who’s the turtle you’d most like to have a beer with? Ok lets assume Mikey would probably prefer smoking up to a beer, if we’re going to age project on them.

Always ready to make the easy / bad joke at the exact right moment.

Mikey is essentially the leftovers, he’s not the quickest (Leo), the most passionate (Raphael) or the smartest (Donatello), this just mean’s he’s well rounded and awesome.

And finally a classic catchphrase, cowabunga!

I don’t have any children (that I know of) and don’t plan on having any (that I know of) for years, but I can imagine choosing your favorite turtle is much like selecting your favorite child. Parents claim it’d be wrong to select a favorite and they love them all equally (which is probably true) but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a favorite. I mean, I know I’m the favorite. So for me it comes down to which turtle I see myself. And in the end, its Raphael. See it’s not that hard parents.

I’d definitely choose a different weapon than the pair of sai, but as I avoid violence as much as possible I don’t think its that big a deal. The sai are defensive weapons.

Like Raphael, I am very loyal. My entourage is small, but thats because loyalty can only go so far. I couldn’t possibly be loyal to everybody so I keep my pack small and defend them until the end. Neither of us look to steal anyone’s thunder and are fine with our background role providing witty commentary and not being too serious.

I’m also, for the most part, very laid back. However there are certain things and instances where I will not be so easy-going. Raphael is the same way. One minute he goes from having a great time with snide and sarcastic comments, being the wise guy, and then can snap into a full rage on a moments notice. If you know me well enough, you’ve seen that happen. Its rare, but it does happen.

Well Greg and Keith, I will say that neither of you seemed to have any trouble at all deciding which TMNT most closely resembled yourself. I am glad you all told their characteristics because other than different weapons, I had no clue they were so different. Of course that is probably because I was a parent before they arrived on the scene. I imagine if I grew up with them I would be able to distinguish one from the other.

Greg, you weren’t supposed to put in that part about being the favorite child. Now I will really be in trouble.

Well, I did grow up with TMNT, even going to see the movie with my U-10 soccer team, but I was totally not clued in to all their differences. In fact, I didn’t realize the differences extended much beyond their weapons and the different colored headbands they wear.

Keith would be a hybrid of Bebop and Michelangelo. I don’t think I would want to be one of them, but I would be cool with just hanging out with them in the Party Van. For my last thought, what was the deal with Krang?
